A waterproof coating is a liquid applied by roller or brush that cures into a thin flexible film, suited to standard concrete surfaces. A membrane is a pre-formed or hot-applied sheet suited to higher sustained water loads.
Can waterproof coating be applied during Kuwait's intense summer heat?
Work is scheduled in the early morning to avoid peak temperatures that affect cure speed and adhesion. Surfaces that are very hot are lightly wetted and allowed to cool before coating begins.
Does a waterproof coating prevent tiles from being laid on top later?
No, many waterproof coatings are designed to accept tile adhesive over them once fully cured. Confirm the chosen product is tile-compatible if tiling is planned on top.
Is waterproof coating suitable for exterior facade walls as well as roofs?
Yes, waterproof coatings are applied to exterior walls exposed to coastal humidity, salt and rain. Facades need a flexible product that tolerates concrete movement caused by Kuwait's thermal expansion cycles.
How can I tell when an existing waterproof coating has stopped working?
Signs of failure include peeling, blistering, chalky discolouration, or damp appearing below the slab. A coating that cracks when flexed has lost elasticity and needs reapplication.
