Torching onto a damp deck

Skipping pipe penetrations
Pipes or fixings that pierce the membrane without collar sealing are the most common leak entry.
Single layer with no edge wrap
Laying membrane flat without turning it up onto parapet walls exposes the base edge to water entry.

Call nowDo roof tiles have to be removed before a membrane is installed?
Removing tiles is preferred because it allows the membrane to bond directly to the concrete deck. In some cases a membrane can be installed over stable, intact tiles, but this depends on the surface condition assessed on site.
How many membrane layers are enough for a Kuwaiti flat roof?
A single thick layer handles most roofs, but surfaces prone to standing water or severe thermal cycling benefit from a two-layer crossed installation that covers any pinholes in the first layer.
What is the practical difference between torch-on and self-adhesive membrane?
Torch-on membrane is heat-welded with a gas flame, giving a very strong bond to a dry concrete deck. Self-adhesive membrane is used where an open flame is not safe, such as near combustible materials or in confined spaces.
Does the membrane need a protection layer if no tiles are laid over it?
Yes. Direct UV exposure in Kuwait degrades exposed bituminous surfaces relatively quickly. A solar-reflective topcoat or a light ballast layer protects the membrane and significantly extends its useful life.
Can membrane waterproofing be installed during Kuwait's summer?
Installation is possible in summer provided the deck is fully dry and work is scheduled in the early morning before surface temperatures rise to a point where controlling the torch weld becomes difficult.
