Call nowCan courtyard tiles be laid directly over old ones without removing them?
It is possible if the old tiles are fully bonded and no hollows are found. In an exposed courtyard, however, the lack of proper waterproofing under the original layer is a common hidden problem that makes full removal the safer choice in most cases.
Why do courtyard tiles tent in summer even when they were recently laid?
The main cause is missing or undersized expansion joints combined with an indoor-grade adhesive that loses bond under high surface temperatures. Exposed courtyard tiles in Kuwait can reach temperatures that generate enough thermal expansion to push tiles upward even after a short time.
Does a partly covered courtyard need the same waterproofing as a fully open one?
Areas open to rain require sub-tile waterproofing regardless of a partial cover. Fully shaded zones still need a moisture-tolerant adhesive and correctly rated grout joints because humidity and condensation remain a factor.
What grout type is suitable for courtyard tiles in Kuwait?
An exterior epoxy or UV-stable flexible grout rated for heat and salt exposure is the right choice. Standard cement grout cracks and erodes quickly under direct Kuwaiti sun and occasional salt-laden humidity.
Must the floor fall toward a single drain or can the gradient be split across the courtyard?
Multiple falls toward more than one drain are possible and practical for large courtyards. The key is ensuring no low point sits between drains where water can pool; this is resolved during the layout planning stage before any tile is fixed.
