Call nowDoes the existing bathroom tile have to come off before marble is installed?
Usually yes. Marble laid over hollow or failing tiles will detach later, and the waterproofing membrane must go directly onto the concrete substrate, not on top of an old tile layer.
How does fixing bathroom wall marble differ from fixing floor marble in the same bathroom?
Floor marble needs a full sand-cement mortar bed with a waterproofing membrane beneath it. Wall marble is fixed with flexible adhesive directly onto a plumb wall. Wall joints must use flexible grout to cope with steam movement, not rigid cement mix.
Why does black mould appear at the edges of bathroom marble even when the bathroom is kept clean?
The most common cause is standard silicone used at corners instead of a mould-resistant type. Constant bathroom humidity makes it an ideal mould host. Removing and replacing it with a mould-resistant bathroom-grade silicone solves the problem.
Does marble in a steam room or jacuzzi bathroom need a different installation approach?
Yes. High heat and dense steam put more stress on joints. Slightly wider joints with a high-performance flexible grout are preferred, and the waterproofing membrane should extend higher up the walls than in a standard bathroom.
How often does bathroom marble need re-impregnating after installation?
It depends on stone porosity, how frequently the bathroom is used and the cleaning products applied. Porous marble exhausts the impregnator faster. A simple sign is water soaking into the stone rather than beading on the surface.
