Call nowDoes the front nosing of a marble stair tread need to be profiled, or is a straight cut acceptable?
A profiled nosing removes the sharp corner, reduces trip risk and gives a finished look. A plain straight cut leaves a vulnerable exposed edge that chips easily under daily foot traffic.
Why does stair marble produce a hollow knock after just a few years of use?
The most common cause is an incomplete mortar bed that leaves voids under the slab. Repeated thermal expansion in Kuwait's climate widens those voids until the slab partially separates from the substrate.
What slab thickness is appropriate for residential stair treads in Kuwait?
A minimum of 2 cm is commonly used, but 3 cm is the standard choice for treads because it handles repeated load and allows a proper nosing profile to be shaped without thinning the edge.
Does stair marble need a waterproofing layer the way bathroom marble does?
Interior stairs do not normally need full waterproofing. Exterior stairs and pool-side stairs do require a waterproofing membrane under the marble to prevent water from reaching the concrete structure below.
How does Kuwait's fine ambient dust affect the grout joints on stair marble over time?
Fine dust settles into joints and hardens with moisture, accelerating the breakdown of brittle grout. Flexible grout and regular joint cleaning significantly extend the life of the installation.
