Call nowCan a gypsum ceiling be painted without covering furniture and floors?
No. Splatter and drips during application will mark any uncovered surface. We cover furniture and floors with protective sheets before any work begins.
Is painting a gypsum ceiling different from painting a concrete ceiling?
Yes. Gypsum is more porous and needs a dedicated primer. Gypsum board joints also require tape and filler treatment before any topcoat is applied.
Why does gypsum ceiling paint yellow near AC vents?
Cold air condensation deposits dust and airborne grease onto the porous gypsum surface over time. Using a stain-resistant paint grade slows the discolouration.
How many coats does new gypsum board need?
New gypsum board needs at least one primer coat and two topcoats. If absorption is uneven across the surface, a second primer coat may be needed before finishing.
Can a white gypsum ceiling be repainted in a dark colour?
Yes, but dark colours require extra coats for even coverage. Gypsum board joints also tend to show more prominently under dark shades, so preparation must be thorough.
