Common mistakes in skirting installation
Butt-joining corners

Exposed nail heads

Call nowShould skirting go in before or after the room doors are hung?
Fitting doors first is better so skirting can be cut accurately around the architrave. Installing skirting before doors makes it hard to achieve a clean return at the door frame.
Is skirting necessary when the floor is tiled rather than parquet?
Skirting conceals the tile-to-wall junction and protects paint from cleaning equipment. It is not compulsory but improves the look and stops dust from entering the joint.
What is the difference between site-painted skirting and factory-wrapped skirting?
Factory-wrapped skirting arrives with a uniform scratch-resistant surface and saves painting time. Site-painted skirting allows any wall colour to be matched but needs extra drying time.
Can skirting be replaced without removing the parquet floor?
Usually yes. Skirting sits on top of the floor, not beneath it, so it can be removed and replaced carefully without disturbing the parquet boards.
Is there a standard skirting height or can it be chosen freely?
There is no mandatory height. Common profiles range from 7 to 15 cm. High-ceiling rooms suit a taller skirting, while narrow corridors work better with a slimmer profile.
