Coastal salt and humidity corrode the drum axle gradually; leaving it leads to a full break requiring drum replacement
Over-tensioning the balance spring
Too much spring tension causes the shutter to snap upward violently, risking a torn strap or pulled axle bracket

Call nowCan a single broken slat be repaired without replacing the whole shutter?
Yes, in most cases a single cracked or buckled slat can be swapped out if the rest of the shutter is sound and a matching profile is available. Full replacement is only recommended when more than half the slats are damaged or the drum housing is corroded beyond repair.
Why does the shutter rattle loudly when opened in the morning but not later in the day?
Thermal contraction is the common cause here. Aluminium shrinks overnight, loosening the interlocks between slats, and the first movement rattles them back into contact. Adjusting spring tension or tightening the side channel usually resolves it.
Is visible rust on a steel shutter a safety concern?
Surface rust can be treated with cleaning and a protective coating. If corrosion has reached the axle or the load-bearing joints, there is a safety risk because a slat or the entire curtain could drop suddenly. An on-site check will determine the extent.
Is it safe to adjust the balance spring yourself?
It is not advisable. The balance spring stores significant pre-tension; releasing the axle without the right tools and restraint can cause serious injury or destroy the drum housing entirely. This adjustment should be left to a trained technician.
How often should shutter guide channels be lubricated given Kuwait's climate?
Lubricate the side channels at least twice a year, once before summer and once after. Dry or silicone-based products are preferred because they do not attract the fine dust that oil-based lubricants collect in Kuwait's air.
