Shutters that block heat, dust and noise

Correct installation starts by measuring the opening precisely and deciding where the drum box sits above the window or entrance. The box is anchored into concrete or block with expansion bolts, and the side channels are plumbed vertical so slats travel straight without binding. In Kuwait the slat profile and surface finish matter: powder-coated or anodised aluminium resists the salt-laden coastal air and the UV load that degrades plain painted surfaces quickly.

A motorised shutter needs a dedicated electrical supply run before the motor is fitted, and the open and close limit switches must be set so the motor stops precisely without over-tensioning the slats. The circuit is tested through full open and close cycles before handover. A manual shutter needs its spring tension calibrated so the shutter lifts with light effort, holds at any intermediate position and does not drop on its own.

Periodic maintenance is essential in Kuwait because summer dust builds up inside the side channels and increases friction on every operation cycle. Maintenance covers cleaning the channels, lubricating axles and checking the bottom rubber seal that keeps fine dust out. When repairing an existing shutter, cracked or bent slats can usually be replaced individually rather than fitting a whole new unit, which is the more cost-effective path in most cases.
