Double glazing improves isolation noticeably but is not enough on its own if the frame is not properly sealed or the reveal gap is open. Effective soundproofing addresses the glass, the frame and the perimeter together.
What is the difference between double glazing and laminated acoustic glass?
Double glazing relies on the air cavity between two panes to reduce sound transfer. Laminated acoustic glass adds a polymer interlayer that absorbs vibrations. Combining both types delivers the highest performance for demanding noise levels.
Can existing aluminium windows be soundproofed without replacing the whole frame?
Yes, if the frame is structurally sound. The existing pane can be replaced with acoustic glazing inside the same frame, and new rubber gaskets added around the closure. A warped or salt-corroded frame will need full replacement.
Does window soundproofing also help reduce the cooling bill?
Yes. Sealing frame gaps and fitting double glazing prevents conditioned air from escaping and reduces the load on the AC. Acoustic and thermal performance in windows work together rather than separately.
Can a secondary inner window be added without breaking into the wall?
Yes. A secondary inner window fits within the existing reveal depth, creating an additional isolating layer. No wall demolition is needed and it suits most existing openings.
