Call nowCan a flat ceiling be soundproofed without accessing the unit above?
Yes. The entire assembly is built from below inside your flat. Resilient channels, acoustic wool and dense board are fixed to the underside of the slab with no access needed to the unit above.
How much headroom does an acoustic suspended ceiling take?
It depends on the suspension depth, board thickness and wool fill required. We confirm the exact depth after the site inspection once the target isolation level is agreed, since a shallower build trades some performance for headroom.
Is screwing board directly to the slab as effective as using resilient channels?
No. Direct fixing turns the board into a vibration conductor rather than a barrier. Resilient channels break the rigid connection between slab and board, and that decoupling is the core of how ceiling soundproofing works.
Is a single layer of dense gypsum board enough for a ceiling?
For light noise a single layer may be adequate, but higher isolation requires two layers with offset joints so no continuous gap runs through the board assembly and weakens the result.
What happens to recessed downlights when an acoustic ceiling is installed?
Recessed light openings are potential weak points. Acoustic enclosures are fitted around each downlight housing before the board layer goes up, sealing the penetration without affecting the lamp or its heat dissipation.
