Yes, provided the closer is rated for high ambient temperatures. The internal hydraulic fluid expands in summer heat, so a standard interior-grade unit fitted on an exterior door will lose its tuning quickly and may drift open or slam.
What is the practical difference between an overhead closer and a floor-spring closer?
An overhead closer mounts on the door leaf or frame and is straightforward to service. A floor spring is buried beneath the door and gives a cleaner look but requires cutting into the floor finish and is more complex to maintain.
Can a closer be fitted to a frameless glass door?
Yes, but it requires a floor-spring or a patch-fitting overhead closer designed for tempered glass. The correct choice depends on glass thickness and how the door is hung, so a site check is needed first.
Why does a newly fitted closer start slamming after a short time?
The most common cause is inaccurate initial valve adjustment. A small internal oil leak can also cause the sweep speed to increase over time. Fitting an undersized unit on a heavy door accelerates wear and the same slamming problem appears within weeks.
Can the closer be adjusted to hold the door open at a set angle?
Some closer models include a hold-open function that locks the door at a specified angle. Not every closer supports this feature, so the option is confirmed during the site check and the right model is selected before purchase.
