A sewage pump handles solids-laden waste water; a sump pump handles clean or rain water only. Using the wrong type causes rapid blockage or motor burnout. The choice depends on what drains into the pit.
Can a sewage pump be installed in an older building with no existing sump pit?
Yes, a collection sump can be formed at the right location, lined, and covered before the pump is installed. The pit size is calculated from the expected discharge rate of the building.
Why does a sewage pump emit foul odour after it has been running for a while?
Foul odour usually comes from a poorly sealed sump cover or a missing vent trap on the discharge line. Sealing the cover and fitting a proper vent trap resolves the issue in most cases.
Does a sewage pump need scheduled servicing or does it run without attention?
Periodic inspection is needed: checking float movement, clearing the impeller of deposits, and inspecting the cable condition. Skipping this leads to sudden failure and sump overflow, often at the worst time.
Is it enough to connect the discharge to the nearest manhole, or is coordination with authorities required?
Connecting to the public sewer network typically requires confirming invert levels and backflow risks with the network authority. We guide you through this coordination as part of the installation process.
