How pool work is done right in Kuwait
A pool shell in Kuwait is built as a reinforced concrete structure, tied back to the main villa frame or sitting on its own footing depending on location. Before any concrete is poured, the rebar layout and cover depth are checked against the structural drawings. Because groundwater in Kuwait's coastal areas is saline, the shell concrete uses a sulphate-resistant mix and the finished shell receives a full waterproofing coat before tiling begins. Curing is extended to protect the new concrete through the summer heat.
Finishing the shell involves applying a bond coat and then setting the tile or mosaic layer in a flexible pool-grade adhesive that handles the temperature swings Kuwait pools experience between summer and winter. The surrounding pool deck needs a slip-resistant surface that drains cleanly. What causes pool tiles to lift or crack shortly after installation?
The main causes are an adhesive not rated for constant water immersion, tiling starting before the concrete shell has fully cured, or movement in the shell structure. In Kuwait, the wide temperature swing between summer and winter also stresses a standard cement adhesive if a flexible pool-grade product is not used instead.
Can a pool leak be located without draining the water first?
In most cases, yes. The pipe network is pressure-tested first to detect any pressure drop from a pipe leak. A dye test is then carried out in the water near suspected shell cracks: any suction pulling the dye toward a crack confirms the source, allowing targeted repair without a full drain.
What does a scheduled pool maintenance visit include?
A visit covers chemical testing and dosing, backwashing the filter media, checking the pump and motor, cleaning the skimmer basket and inspecting the pool interior for early signs of tile loosening or shell cracking. Visit frequency is set to match the pool's use pattern and Kuwait's seasonal conditions.
Does building a pool inside a private residential plot in Kuwait require a permit?
Building a pool within a residential plot is subject to municipality rules on setbacks and covered area ratios. It is handled as part of the wider project permit. Your licensed contractor advises on what the permit covers and what drawings are needed before construction starts.
Can a cracked pool shell be repaired rather than demolished and rebuilt?
It depends on how far the cracking has spread and whether the shell has shifted structurally. Minor cracks are treated with epoxy injection or hydraulic cement, then re-waterproofed and retiled. Where the shell has moved or deteriorated beyond repair, demolishing and casting a new shell is the safer and more cost-effective long-term solution.
