What sets this area apart

Salam is a residential district with plots of 700 to 950 square metres, most homes three storeys of older traditional construction with distributed columns and flat beams. These buildings were erected in the 1970s and 1980s under different building standards than today, requiring careful inspection before adding any new load. We test concrete and steel strength through samples from foundations and columns, and review soil reports if available. We then prepare a reinforcement study including wrapping columns with new concrete layers or adding extra steel before any new storey pouring begins.

Salam is in Hawalli governorate, a relatively older residential district near Salam Co-op and Mishref Park.

Columns in most Salam homes are 35 to 40 centimetres in diameter, and beams 50 to 60 centimetres thick; we account for these dimensions in calculating additional load.

Questions about Additional floor in Salam

Call now
Are older column and beam dimensions sufficient for an added storey?

We check original calculations first. If columns and beams are undersized they need reinforcement before pouring, which may include wrapping columns with new concrete or adding auxiliary columns.

Does concrete deterioration over years affect whether we can add a floor?

Yes, deterioration reduces concrete and steel strength. We examine samples carefully; if deterioration is mild we design reinforcement, and if severe we may need injection or external strengthening before the new storey pour.
