Retaining wall in Kuwait - Kuwait City

Retaining wall in Kuwait City

Retaining walls in Kuwait City hold back earth on commercial and residential plots that are elevated or sloped. We assess the soil and load, pour reinforced concrete, install comprehensive drainage, and hand over complete.

What sets this area apart

Kuwait City plots are mixed: some older on mixed clay-sand soil, some newer on artificially raised land. Retaining walls here range from 1.5 to 3 metres tall depending on the ground-level difference. We test the soil before design because the sand-clay mix affects friction angle and allowable bearing. Drainage around the wall is essential to prevent water build-up behind the concrete during the rain season.

Kuwait City lies in the capital's main district, where mixed-height commercial and residential buildings of varying age stand near Liberation Square and the Grand Mosque.

We maintain at least 30 centimetres of drainage depth behind a retaining wall in residential areas of Kuwait City.

What the work covers

Soil assessment, structural design, casting and drainage through to a complete handover

  • Excavation and soil check

Assess soil type and depth before setting footing levels

  • Spread footing pour

Wide footing spreads lateral soil load across a larger base area

  • Wall reinforcement and casting

Linked vertical and horizontal rebar placed before full concrete casting

  • Waterproofing and drainage layer

Membrane on the retained face with gravel layer and drain pipes

  • Controlled backfilling

Backfill in layers with controlled compaction to avoid surcharge spikes

  • Finish and handover

Exposed face treated then final inspection carried out before handover

Questions about Retaining wall in Kuwait City

Call now
How do you handle mixed sand-clay soil in retaining wall design?

We sample and test the soil to determine friction angle and density, then calculate lateral load based on the results. Mixed sand-clay soil requires reinforcement at the base to prevent sliding.

Can a retaining wall be built between two adjacent plots in Kuwait City?

Yes, but we need municipality approval on setbacks, boundaries and water drainage. The wall must clearly separate the two plots and ensure soil does not collapse on the opposite side.
