What sets this area apart

Salmi is a remote border area with residential and service buildings spread across wide plots in the desert, some serving border posts and administrative centres. Exterior walls face direct sunlight and extreme heat year-round, and very dry air that increases material cracking. Most buildings have thick concrete or cement walls, but peak temperatures penetrate them quickly regardless of thickness. Insulation here is critical because any failure means very high indoor temperatures and massive cooling costs. We use flexible insulation materials that tolerate extreme expansion and contraction, and leave wide expansion joints.

Salmi is in Jahra governorate in a remote border area on the Kuwait-Iraq border, where an extreme desert climate prevails.

Expansion joints in insulated walls in remote desert border areas are widened to three or four centimetres to absorb large material movement.

Questions about Wall thermal insulation in Salmi

Call now
What insulation type suits Salmi's harsh desert climate best?

Mineral wool and polyurethane foam both work well here. We choose based on requirements: mineral wool is more rigid for extreme heat, foam is better for low relative humidity resistance. In both cases we use a vapour barrier and thick external protective layer.

Why do we need much wider expansion joints in Salmi than other areas?

Temperatures in Salmi swing between above fifty degrees Celsius during the day and below twenty at night. This huge range causes massive thermal movement in materials, requiring wide joints to absorb shrinkage and expansion without cracking.
