What the service covers - Bathroom renovation

What the service covers

Three renovation paths matched to your bathroom's condition and your budget.

  • No-demolition renovation

Full visual refresh without breaking existing tiles or walls.

  • Bathroom ceiling repair

Fixing slab cracks, staining and moisture from the floor above.

  • Bathroom retiling

Strip old tiles, apply waterproofing membrane and relay full floor and walls.

  • Waterproofing and screeding

Waterproof layer applied before any tile on floor or wall base.

  • Plumbing and drainage

Replacing mixers, drain traps and fixing concealed leaks.

  • Glass and aluminium screens

Frameless glass shower screens or aluminium door with silicone sealing.

Mistakes that ruin bathroom renovations

  1. Tiling without waterproofing

Tiling an unprotected floor lets moisture penetrate the slab and damage the ceiling below.

  2. Wrong silicone at junctions

Standard silicone at the shower base cracks quickly and lets water track behind the tiles.

  3. Standard gypsum board overhead

Non-moisture-rated board in a bathroom ceiling absorbs steam and buckles within months.

  4. Skipping crack treatment first

Finishing over existing wall cracks without treatment lets them reappear within one season.

Before you call: what to check first

  1. Decide the renovation path

Visual refresh only or full strip-out: this decision drives cost and duration.

  2. Check the existing floor

Raised or uneven tiles may mean full demolition before waterproofing can be done properly.

  3. Locate any active leak

Damp patches on the ceiling or walls should be photographed and noted before work starts.

  4. Access and occupancy plan

Confirm whether the bathroom can be fully taken out of use during works.

Part of: Renovation & finishing

Inside bathroom renovation.

How bathroom renovation is done right

Every bathroom renovation starts with an honest condition assessment, not a materials list. If the floor tiles are hollow or the screed beneath is crumbling, demolition comes before waterproofing. Where the substrate is solid and the structure is sound, a no-demolition approach limits disruption to the rest of the house and avoids generating large volumes of debris.

Waterproofing is the critical step in any retiling job. The membrane goes on the full floor area and rises on walls to a proper height, with careful attention given to drain collars and the floor-to-wall junction. Gypsum used in the ceiling must be moisture-rated board: standard board absorbs steam from daily use and begins to sag and crack within a short time.

Once waterproofing layers are closed and tiling is complete, finishing details determine how long the work lasts: silicone joints at the shower base, correctly fitted mixer connections and aluminium door profiles rated for humidity and coastal salt. The final check taps across every tile to confirm full adhesion and no hollow spots beneath the surface.

What goes wrong with most finishing.

The finish is what you see every day, and its mistakes do not hide. These three are the most common.

  1. 01

    A rushed finish

The finish is what you live with every day. Rushing it shows in every corner.

  2. 02

    Four contractors for one finish

Tiling, gypsum, paint and aluminium crews who never talk to each other.

  3. 03

    After-care that never comes

Once you have the keys, it is hard to find anyone to come back and fix what shows up.

The solution?

Full finishing, and maintenance after it, from one licensed company.

  1. A bathroom finished in modern marble
    A rushed finish

    Turnkey finishing

Marble, tiling, gypsum and paint from one company.

  2. A gypsum ceiling with hidden lighting in a modern living room
    Four contractors for one finish

    One company for every trade

No gaps between the tiler, the gypsum crew and the painter.

  3. A finished modern living room with a marble floor
    After-care that never comes

    Regular maintenance after handover

And finishing on instalments if you need it.

What sets the price.

A few practical factors shape the final quote for each bathroom renovation.

Get a quote
  1. Renovation type

No-demolition refresh costs less than full strip-out and retiling.

  2. Bathroom area

Larger floor and wall areas increase material quantities and labour directly.

  3. Finish material grade

Large-format porcelain and wall-hung fittings differ in cost from standard items.

  4. Ceiling and wall condition

Crack repair and damp treatment on ceilings add cost based on damage extent.

  5. Plumbing works needed

Replacing concealed supply or drain lines increases the overall scope and cost.

Questions, answered.

Can a bathroom be renovated without breaking the existing tiles?

Yes, where the floor is level and tiles are solid, a full visual renewal is possible without demolition. If there is an active leak or the screed beneath is damaged, stripping out is necessary before any new finish is applied.

Why do damp patches appear on a bathroom ceiling?

The most common cause is missing or failed waterproofing under the floor of the bathroom above. Fixing the ceiling finish from below without tracing and sealing the source will not stop the damp returning.

How long is the bathroom out of use during renovation?

Duration depends on the scope. A no-demolition refresh is completed faster than a full retile, which requires the waterproofing membrane to cure fully before any tile adhesive is applied.

Is a frameless glass shower screen better than an aluminium sliding door?

Frameless glass looks cleaner and is easier to maintain, but requires precise fixing and fully sealed silicone joints. An aluminium sliding door costs less and is straightforward to repair. The right choice depends on space and budget.

Can the drain position be changed during a bathroom renovation?

Yes, but it requires breaking the screed and rerouting the pipe, which adds to cost and time. The new drain position must be confirmed to have adequate fall before the screed and waterproofing are closed.

Does bathroom ceiling repair require access from the floor above?

If the source is a leak from the bathroom above, access from that floor is needed to treat the cause. Repairing only the damaged ceiling finish from below without sealing the source above produces a temporary result.
