What about limestone layers when digging deep for foundations?
We dig to the solid limestone layer then pour foundations directly on it. Limestone is hard and safe to build on, so deeper digging is not usually needed except in special cases. A pneumatic breaker is sometimes used to fracture limestone if we need a deeper footing.
